For the 11th year running we are pleased to introduce this Annual IBC Course addressing Safety Management within the working environment. The main objective of the course is to provide an overview of the available methods and techniques used during the management of safety and to support participants with their practical application. To achieve this objective, the participant "learning experience" is supported by workshops, worked examples, case studies and exercises.

The course format mixes lectures, discussions and a choice of workshops in order to achieve variety in the depth of coverage of certain topics to reflect the different interests of participants. One important aspect of the course is the ample opportunity given for discussion with the speakers and other delegates, both during the day and during the social gatherings arranged each evening as part of this residential course.

Topics include:

  • the link between safety and cost
  • setting safety targets
  • balancing personal and process safety
  • managing effective emergency response
  • learning from past mistakes and incident records
  • corporate responsibility
  • successful health and safety management
  • health risk management
  • the role of Six Sigma

At the end of the course attendees should have:

  • gained a good overview of a range of Safety Management techniques
  • applied a number of techniques within a workshop/exercise session
  • improved their knowledge of the management of safety
  • achieved confidence in their role as "intelligent customer"
  • had the opportunity to talk with colleagues and experts in a relaxed environment

This course, in the attractive environment of Christ's College Cambridge, will be particularly beneficial to those who are new to managing safety as well as those who have practical responsibility within their company.

Comments from last years attendees

"The course combined learning with social interaction. It proved very effective and I have taken much away from it, thank you."
— DB, Metronet Rail

"Quality of event and programme was excellent, covering a wide
range of safety issues on varying levels, linking into health and overall business management. Considering the wide range of sectors represented, this was extremely difficult and was pulled off well."
— SE, King's College Hospital

"Workshops were great, interactive and fun!"
— ME, Babcock Naval Services

"A very good mix of speakers from a range of industries, plus a damned good social aspect!"
— CW, Rolls Royce Marine

"A very useful diverse range of subjects covered, very well organised and presented."
— SP, Arup
